This project was one of my favorites in college, and I am still quite proud of it. My classmates and I were tasked with picking a topic we were passionate about, and then we each had to design a publication around our chosen topic. In grade school I was really fascinated by Origami, and I really wanted to design something featuring the folds I had learned.
The mockup contains 32 pages of instructions on how to fold 5 different designs - a Traditional Crane, a Raptor, a Traditional Lilly, a Ninja Star, and a Penguin. The idea was that each “issue” would come with several sheets of origami paper and instructions on how to fold each individual design.
'Ori' means 'folding', and 'kami' means 'paper' - through rendaku, the words combine to become 'origami'.
Each opening page for the folds contains line art of the finished product, and a little history of the fold or fun facts on the finished product. For design elements I included what the paper would look like if you unfold it after completing the final folds.
